Models PicoScope PS9404-05 and PS9404-16, PS9402-05 and PS9402-16

The PicoScope 9400 series are 2- and 4-channel oscilloscopes that combine the benefits of real-time sampling, equivalent-time sampling and high analog bandwidth. The PicoScopes 9404-05 and 9402-05 have an analog bandwidth of 5 GHz, 70 ps transition time and a random sampling rate of 1 TS/s (1 ps resolution). The PicoScopes 9404-16 and 9402-16 have an analog bandwidth of 16 GHz, 22 ps transition time and a random sampling rate of 2.5 TS/s (0.4 ps resolution) as well as 8 Gb/s clock recovery. The channels are simultaneous with individual 12 bit/500 MS/s A/D converters. The PicoScopes 9400 scopes are ideal for pulse, eye and mask testing down to 45 ps and up to 11 Gb/s. USB 2.0 or Ethernet/LAN (4-channel models only) can be used for the connectivity to a PC. The software for Windows is included.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: Can I use the PicoScope 9400 series with PicoScope6 software?

Answer: No, the PicoScope 9400 devices work with the PicoSample4 oscilloscope software. This is tailor-made for the functions and features of SXRTO (Sampler-Extended Real-Time Oscilloscope) technology. The PicoScope 9400 Series oscilloscopes can measure over 40 standard waveforms and over 70 eye parameters. The software supports eye diagram plotting, matching mask testing, and very extensive mathematical and statistical analysis up to FFT and histograms.

Question: What does SXRTO mean

Answer: SXRTO stands for Sampler-Extended Real-Time Oscilloscope and combines the advantages of real-time sampling, equivalent-time sampling and high analog bandwidth:

  • RTO - Real-Time Oscilloscope: This oscilloscope samples the whole waveform in a single acquisition, therefore ideal for transient, non-repetitive signals. The sampling rate has to be sufficient according to the Nyquist theorem.
  • (Random)ETS - Equivalent-Time Sampling: As many samples as possible are collected with each trigger event in this mode. Due to the random time offset of the triggers with respect to the oscilloscope clock, after a large number of trigger events, the instrument has enough samples to display the signal with desired time resolution. The method is only suitable for repetitive (repetitive) signals, i.e., those that vary little from one trigger event to the next.
  • SXRTO: The SXRTO acquires many samples per trigger at low timebase speeds and behaves as a real-time digitiser that acquires the whole waveform from a single trigger.
As the timebase speed is increased the SXRTO switches to ETS mode. As the samples are acquired randomly with respect to the trigger position, the sampled waveform prior to and including the trigger position can be displayed. This makes it possible to view the waveform leading up to the trigger condition (pre-trigger information), a valuable aid in fault analysis.
The PicoScope 9400 SXRTO offers a unique maximum effective 12 bit sampling rate on ETS of 1 or 2,5 TS/s, which corresponds to a temporal resolution of only 1 or 0,4 ps. The analog bandwidth is 5 or 16 GHz.

Question: Is the power supply adaptor/PSU included with the PicoScopes 9400?

Answer: Yes, the 12 V power supply is included. The kit also contains the PicoSample 4 software on USB stick, a quick start guide, an USB cable (1.8 m), PicoWrench N/SMA/PC3.5/K combination wrench, a storage/carry case and a LAN cable (1 m for the PicoScope 9404 models only).
