Benefits of the PicoScope 4444 Differential Input Oscilloscope

  • Connect and visualize signals that are off-limits to a grounded-input oscilloscope.
  • Measure differential signals with a single channel.
  • With the tried and tested PicoScope software.

PicoScope 4444 the Oscilloscope with 4 True-Differential Channels!

The PicoScope 4444 has 4 true-differential inputs with 12 to 14 bit resolution. With its wide differential and common-mode voltage ranges, the PicoScope 4444 and its accessories offer accurate and detailed measurement for a multitude of applications. 9-pin D-sub type connectors are used to create a true differential probe interface for a variety of accessories. The PicoScope software can automatically identify the probe and select the appropriate display settings. The TA271 and TA299 adaptors allow you to use the PicoScope 4444 with traditional BNC-connected accessories.

  • 4 input channels, true differential.
  • Flexible resolution, 12 or 14 bit.
  • 20 MHz bandwidth.
  • Up to 400 MS/s sampling rate.
  • 256 MS capture memory.
  • High common-mode rejection ratio.
  • Balanced high-impedance inputs for a low circuit load.
  • Intelligent probe interface.
  • Measure differential signals with a single channel.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: What are typical applications for the PicoScope 4444's differential inputs?

Answer: The differential inputs of the PicoScope 4444 can measure signals which oscilloscopes with ground-referenced single-ended inputs to ground cannot handle. A differential oscilloscope makes measurements between two high-impedance inputs, allowing measurements to be made on components and test points where neither side is grounded. Differential inputs also reject common mode noise. This noise which is picked up equally at both high impedance inputs, are effectively suppressed. Applications include, for example, non-ground referenced measurements or measuring single-phase and three-phase voltages and currents. The PicoScope 4444 can also be used for measuring power consumption of mobile and IoT devices, mains power quality testing, SMPS (switched-mode power supply) development, hybrid and electric vehicle design, motor drives and inverters, biomedical electronics, and measuring differential signals (CAN, balanced audio) with a single-channel.

Question: Why does the PicoScope have D-Sub instead of BNC connectors? Which probes do I used with the PicoScope 4444?

Answer: The PicoScope 4444's four input channels feature an intelligent probe interface that detects and identifies compatible probes, and supplies them with power if necessary. Each channel can have its own selection of voltage or current probe. The PicoScope 4444 is available in 2 kits, ready to use with 3 probes and a BNC adaptor. Additional probes also are available as an optional accessory. Non-attenuating probes are used for high-resolution, low-noise measurements of signals in a range from millivolts to ±50 V. Attenuating probes are used for the measurement of signals up to 1000 V CAT III. Current probes allow the measurement of currents up to 2000 A and also are rated for 1000 V CAT III measurements.

Question: What are the advantages of the PicoScope 4444's high 12- and 14-bit resolution?

Answer: The high resolution of the PicoScope 4444 offers 64x more detail. According to its technical specifications, the PicoScope 4444 can sample with 12-bit resolution at speeds up to 400 MS/s which is 16 times more vertical resolution than traditional 8-bit oscilloscopes (4096 vertical levels vs. 256). The PicoScope 4444's ADC (A/D converter) can also work as a 14-bit flash converter which reduces the maximum sampling rate to 50 MS/s, but offers 64 times more vertical resolution than traditional 8-bit oscilloscopes. Together with the PicoScope software an a large high-definition screen this will give you the ability to capture and view extremely fine details for example in scientific and battery test applications.
